The speaker of The Maldives Parliament and the Ex President of the country recently opined that, The bilateral relation with India is one of the greatest of all priorities for The Maldives. He further reiterated that, Maldives needs to maintain its relationship with India with wisdom in order to achieve prosperity.
This is by far one of the epitome of token of mutual relationship endorsement from The Speaker and the Ex President; a young leader of the country with vision, acumen and pragmatism.
This remarks were made by the honourable speaker to the house of the people’s majlis to rebuff the angst amongst the member of the house about military presence to protect the Maldives. The speaker also mentioned that the President and Minister will maintain this India – Maldives relation with wisdom.
Meanwhile, Maldivian Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed, in a tweet , confirmed that India as a “strong and formidable partner” that has helped Maldives maintain its sovereignty and come to the country’s aid on numerous occasions.
“I cannot be so intellectually dishonest about the actual facts of our relations. Relations that have benefited our country economically, socially and most importantly for the strengthening of our own sovereignty,” she said.
India has already extended the assistance of $400 million through extended Currency swap arrangement that will help the Indian ocean Island country tide over liquidity crisis. India has announced $250 million dollar support to the Maldives through a soft loan arrangement.
